Vertical drain for soft soil improvement that biodegrades naturally
DAEHAN i. m. manufactures and supplies various types of geosynthetics used for civil engineering works, such as vertical and horizontal drains used for soft ground improvement, as well as geogrids for reinforced retaining walls.
Based on expertise and experience built over 30 years, DAEHAN i. m. is an industry leader in eco-friendly soil improvement built on the development of the Bio Verti-Drain as the first of its kind in Korea, to respond to demand for eco-friendly products in construction sites at home and abroad.
The Bio Verti-Drain is a combination of PBS (Poly Butylene Succinate) made of woody fiber and biodegradable PLA (Poly Latic Acid) from cornstarch, based on the physical strength of the company’s Verti-Drain applied for soft ground improvement. The Verti-Drain is used for stabilizing ground bases by discharging pore water from soft soil, but there was a concern over soil contamination as it was made of plastics. The Bio Verti-Drain continues to function at least three years after installation and biodegrades after consolidation, leaving no plastic remnants.
The Bio Verti-Drain has been recognized as the first biodegradable vertical drain for improvement of soft ground by obtaining a Korea ECO Label from Ministry of Environment. The product was registered as a green product eligible for mandatory purchase by public institutions as per the Act on the Promotion of the Purchase of Green Products, and it is useful for turnkey projects and technical proposals for weak soil improvement works.
Kwan Young Cho, CEO of DAEHAN i. m., said, “We were honored with many awards – USD 10 million Outstanding Export Performance in 2017, Certificate of Technical Achievement in 2018, and Designation as a Chungbuk Star Company for its excellence and high growth potential by Chungcheongbuk-do provincial government. DAEHAN i. m. will continue to develop innovative technologies and launch new projects, rising as one of the leading businesses of the world, not just a leading one in Korea.”
